The point of this whole column is to put yourself in a state of mind of complete perseverance and self-improvement. A mistake many people make, besides writers, is that they adopt an attitude of "enough." What do I mean by that? People get to a point where they are succesful and subsequently think that they no longer need to develop their craft. They believe with all their heart that they know "enough."
This is one of the biggest mistakes a person can make.
No matter what craft you study, you can never know enough. Yes, there are experts in every field of work. But even experts have more to learn. There will always be an infinite amount of knowledge on ANY given craft.
Besides that, other people look down upon "know-it-alls." Nobody likes a know-it-all. However, modesty scores big time. Now when I say modesty, I don't mean to say that you act like an idiot. On the contrary, be confident, but absolutely don't be cocky. Be cordial and polite while expressing that you know your craft. How you deal with potential employers (producers) is just as important, if not more important, than how you perform if hired.
This is all part of striving to be perfect as a screenwriter. Make it a point to learn something new every day about the craft of screenwriting and STICK WITH IT.
You can never learn enough.
Until next week...
